How to make my blogroll my front page and have a tab for it in my menu

  • Posts

  • I want to make my blogroll to show up when someone visits my blog. I also want my tab "Blog" to go into my menu so people can return to my blog if they are exploring. However, when I create the "Blog" page and then go and customize choose "A static page" for my front page display. I then set my front page as my "Blog" page and my posts page as my "Blog" page… rather then my "Blog" page switching to show my posts it shows all my pages on my blog, and none of my posts. I don't want that to happen, but I don't know how to fix it. I tried deleting all of the pages and starting again, but that didn't work.

The blog I need help with is: danilangowski.wordpress.com

Let me see if I can help. By "blogroll" do you mean your list of blog posts, or a list of blogs you are linking to?

Generally speaking, a static front page is a landing page that contains information that doesn't change a whole lot. A blog constantly changes and refreshes every time there's a new post, so using a blog as your static page (or vice versa) doesn't really work.

To have your blog show up as the front page of your site, go to Settings > Reading and select "Front page displays your latest posts".

Then in your Menus make sure the front page of your blog is listed.

Thank you for responding! By blogroll I meant my blog posts.

I have changed my front page display to my latest posts.

Now, how do I add it to my menu?

Will the content on your "Blog" page be different from the content that's on the homepage (front page)? If not, go back to your menu settings and change the url to http://danilangowski.wordpress.com – remove the /blog from the end of the address.

It will be the same content. How do I change the url? I can't find a place to do that!

I really appreciate the help, I'm very illiterate when it comes to this type of stuff.

    You're welcome!

Change the URL by going to Appearance > Menus. Select the menu for your site, and follow the instructions in the previous message.

Are you asking: How do create a static front page?

By default the front page of your blog displays all published posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. That is for the convenience of your returning visitors, who come to read your latest post, and who are not likely to be happy with being compelled to click through the same static page with the same blah, blah, blah on it every time they visit the blog looking for the latest post.

However, if you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, and know that static front pages are traffic killers, then you can create a static front page called for example "Welcome" for your site and a "Blog" page for posts. To do that create two pages first http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/

After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click "save changes".
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

So I fixed the issue of my home page. THANK YOU!

Now I want "Favorite Quotes" and "Warning" to be under the same tab as "About." So a menu drops down when you hover over "About." I had it like that at one point, but I lost it somehow.

    Thanks again!

Never mind, I figured it out! Thanks again!!
