DIY Dual Photographic camera Bracket Mount - 2 cams on 1 tripod

Before I beat out $l for the uber quality unit I want, I would like to consider a trip to the hardware shop and some ingenuity.
I similar this unit because information technology is fourteen" which will better accommodate my camera and camcorder with Flip-out LCD view finders. Then the lesser $ unit that is only 30cm is not of interest.

At that place are some other similar designs with dissimilar screws etc such equally:

I have all kinds of Drills and Dremels and routing bits, so making the holes or even the channels in the center us possible. Assuming I purchase a bar of aluminum and do the fabrication, I would demand the screws, such equally the d-ring or big diameter pollex cycle type.
Even overnice screws for this are a tad pricey, virtually $viii - $12 a pair.
Has anyone done this as a DIY project yet?
What hardware do you recommend?
If you lot were to do this, what would be the parts list you would purchase\order? (urls)
In the end, I will probably beat out the $50 just I would like your input kickoff.
Thanks IN ADVANCE!!

Re: DIY Dual Camera Subclass Mount - 2 cams on 1 tripod
Cheers Russell!
That'southward very generous. I saw that i, but it has the quick disconnect pins on the outside and I have a dual purpose for the "dual bar". I as well want it to slide in to a bike and it need to exist completely flat on the end. I bought a Primo Series 7 front cycle rim with a max interior diameter of 15". I need this bar to fit within and withal have room to fit 2 cameras.
http://www.sourcebmx.com/production/wheels-etc/bmx-rims/primo-7005-rest-rim/751.shtml
One of the functions of the dual bracket is to sit in my version of this - http://halorig.com/
I wish to remove the bar completely from this handheld bicycle (with the cameras still mounted?) and then add to a tripod. I may be mistaken, only it appears that the disconnects on this are but on the ends and not movable.
Assuming that it's no trouble to get flat aluminum or steel at Lowes, Domicile Depot etc, what are the screws that I would demand to secure the cameras? If I buy 1\4x20 with nigh 8mm of shank and at least another 4mm of thread, would this be correct?
TIA

I've fabricated several camera holders out of oak. Substantially all you need is to drill a ane/iv" pigsty for the 1/4-20" spiral to get through. I usually add together pieces on the side so that the camera won't motion when it is mounted in the thing, either pieces of wood, or carefully drilled holes that I put a dowel in. With wood, I tend to like 1/two" or three/four" wood, and then use a one/two" or larger speedbor or drill chip to cut ane/four" from the bottom. This allows me to apply a 1/ii" or 3/4" screw and screw information technology into the camera, just notwithstanding let the wood to sit flat without the screw head sticking out.
However, in terms of mounting information technology on a tripod, you need to be more careful, and remainder the weight of the ii cameras. Y'all also demand to make sure that the tripod will hold all of the weight, of the cameras, flash, etc. Many of the cheaper tripods merely would not exist able to concur information technology, or they might tip over if things aren't balanced correctly. It might be meliorate rather than using a single tripod, to use two tripods

Thanks Michael!
Your points are valid indeed. I own a DMC-FZ150 and a HDC-TM90K, very light weight.
They will be very close to each other and with the FZ150, I tin can plough the LCD screen effectually 180 degrees flat so the camcorder tin can be as little every bit 1\2" away.
The two cameras do have unlike centers front end to back only non enough to torq a tripod head.
I'll consider the wood every bit you suggested.
Also I might just snag this aluminum from the Harbor Freight nearby and cutting it to size - http://www.harborfreight.com/24-inch-colossal-aluminum-caliper-96509.html
